KMSC’s Programming
The basic format of KMSC is college alternative. KMSC follows this format each weekday until 5 p.m. Programming during the college alternative format hours consists of a music rotation of the best non-corporate music as selected by the
KMSC music director and staff.
During the evenings and on weekends KMSC broadcasts specialty shows. The format and content of the specialty shows is varied – rap, R&B, Christian, women’s music, metal, latin, world music… We just think there’s too much good music to limit ourselves.
KMSC also has a commitment to news. We air newscasts four times each day – 9 a.m. hour, noon, 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. We also broadcast news specials, including our bi-annual election night marathon and live coverage of important campus and community events.
Mustang sports events are becoming increasingly important to KMSC’s programming schedule. We are airing play-by-play coverage of all Morningside football games as well as most men’s and women’s away basketball games during the 2009-2010 season. We’re thinking about doing baseball and softball in the spring. Newly acquired technology gives our play-by-play broadcasts near studio-quality audio, even when the game is coming from out of town.
